Instructions for the use of calomel electrodes:
1. When calomel electrode is used, the rubber cap at the side and end should be removed first so that the salt bridge solution can pass through the measured solution at a certain velocity by means of gravity dimension.
2. There should be no bubbles in the solution of potassium chloride in the electrode, and a little potassium chloride crystal should be retained in the solution.
3. The salt bridge solution surface of the calomel electrode should be slightly higher than the measured solution surface in order to prevent the measured solution from diffusing back to the calomel electrode.
4. Because the electrode potential of calomel electrode has greater negative temperature coefficient and thermal hysteresis, temperature fluctuation should be prevented in measurement. Accurate measurements should be made at constant temperature.
5. If it is found that the measured solution has contamination on the liquid complexes of calomel electrodes, scale should be scraped at any time.
6. Calomel electrodes are generally not suitable for use in environments above 70 degrees Celsius.
7. When potassium chloride solution and crystal are attached to the surface of the electrode, it should be removed at any time.
8. Potential changes due to photolysis of calomel electrodes should be avoided in use and storage.
9. Double salt bridge saturated calomel electrode (217 type) with outer sleeve can be used as general saturated calomel electrode if the outer sleeve is removed. When measuring samples susceptible to K or Cl_interference, other appropriate solutions should be filled in the outer casing. For example, 0.1MLiAc is charged when K is measured by potassium electrode, 0.1MKNO3 when Cl_is measured by chlorine electrode, 1 MKNO3 when S2-is measured by sulfur electrode, and so on.
