The PCM5102 integrates a stereo analog-to-digital converter (DAC) that provides excellent dynamic performance and improved clock jitter tolerance. Leveraging DirectPathTM charge pump technology, the PCM510xA devices provide a 2.1 VRMS centrally grounded output (designers do not need to connect DC blocking capacitors at the output) and external mute circuitry traditionally associated with a single power line driver. Integrated soft mute also enables 120dB mute signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) with hardware mute. The integrated line driver supports loads as low as 1k per pin, outperforming all other charge pump based line drivers in performance. A high-performance integrated audio phase-locked loop (PLL) with a BCK reference inside the device generates SCK, enabling a 3-wire I2S connection and reducing system electromagnetic interference (EMI) without the need for a system clock (commonly referred to as a master clock). Smart clock error and PowerSense undervoltage protection feature a two-layer system that eliminates clicks and pops. Out-of-band noise can be controlled to as low as 20dB compared to many traditional switched capacitor DAC architectures, reducing EMI and aliasing in downstream amplifiers/ADCs. When the clock and power system fail, the device automatically attenuates data and activates an analog mute circuit.
