When the future shines brightly, this ultra-high-range photometric sensor will help you. The TSL2591 light sensor is an advanced digital light sensor ideal for use in a variety of lighting situations. Compared to low-cost CdS cells, the sensor is more accurate, performs accurate lux calculations, and can be configured for different gain/timing ranges to detect light ranges from 188 uLux to 88,000 Lux in real time.
The best part about this sensor is that it contains IR and full spectrum diodes! This means you can measure infrared, full spectrum or human visible light alone. Most sensors can only detect one of these, which is not an accurate representation of what the human eye sees (because we cannot perceive IR light detected by most photodiodes) This sensor is much like the TSL2561, but with a wider range (and a different interface code) . This sensor has a huge dynamic range of 600,000,000:1! Unlike the TSL2561, you cannot change the I2C address, so keep that in mind.
The built-in ADC means you can use it with any microcontroller, even if it doesn't have an analog input. The current consumption is extremely low, making it ideal for low-power data logging systems. About 0.4mA when actively sensing, less than 5uA in power-down mode.
