Determine NPT/NPS size:
The distinction between NPT and NPS is based on the nominal pipe diameter, not the outer diameter (OD) of the thread.
For example: the diameter of the external thread of a 1/2" NPT external threaded joint is about 3/4", but as mentioned above, the correct NPT size is 1/2", including the corresponding internal thread.
Although NPT and NPS threads can be connected together, their threads may not form a proper seal or may not be the best connection.
